NZ Medical Council Process for Doctors
Registration Guidelines and Requirements for Hiring Managers:
SMO’s (Consultants), Fellows and MOSS’s coming from overseas, need to be registered with the New Zealand Medical Council (NZMC) to be able to work, practise safely and competently in New Zealand.
To support the NZMC registration process to enable candidates to be registered, the service needs to provide documentation for submission to the NZMC in order for the applicants’ registration application to be assessed.
The Service / Hiring Managers / Operations Manager will need to supply:
REG3 form or REG7 form – completed and signed by the assigned supervisor. The SMO recruiter will then get it signed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and complete the other components on the form.
- This form may vary depending on the pathway they apply through & they may also need to supply a REG10.
- Full supervision plan – guidelines as outlined by the NZMC website
- Full orientation and induction plan – guidelines as outlined by the NZMC website
Once completed, these forms should be sent through the SMO recruiter, currently Ben Bradley - ben.bradley@waitematadhb.govt.nz for all services except Mental Health, which go to Anne Manley - anne.manley@waitematadhb.govt.nz

The NZ Medical Council will only accept a registration application once ALL the documents are accurately completed.

Once all paperwork is prepared, please e-mail the documents in a pdf format to the SMO recruiter. They will then submit to the NZMC and the assigned NZMC Consultant with the required documentation and act as an intermediary with the SMO/Fellow/MOSS.
