Immigration

The WDHB is the only DHB in New Zealand, which has a Licensed immigration advisor, who holds a full license which means that our Global Mobility Consultant can provide comprehensive Immigration advice across all ranges of visa types.

Giving Immigration Advice:

  • We know that many hiring managers like to assist their new candidates with their Immigration process; however it is very important that you are aware of the Immigration Advisors Licensing Act.
  • It is an offence to provide Immigration advice to your candidates or current staff, unless you hold an Immigration Licence. The Act was made to protect the interest of people receiving immigration advice and to enhance the reputation of New Zealand as a migration destination.
  • Under the Act, anyone giving immigration advice must be licenced unless they are exempt.

Fact sheet about providing Immigration Advice

  • Our Global Mobility Consultant is available to support current staff and new candidates with their Immigration requirements. If the candidate has been offered Relocation assistance, our Global Mobility Consultant, will also manage the Relocation process.
  • We encourage you to advise your candidates/staff, to make contact with Adelle to discuss their Visa options, as soon as possible.
  • Our Consultant also has access to a wonderful resource, called Visa View, which is a free on-line service provided by Immigration New Zealand. It allows us to check a prospective employee’s entitlement to work in New Zealand for the WDHB.

Employer obligations:

  • The 2009 Act narrows the ‘reasonable excuse’ defence for employing a foreign national not entitled to work in New Zealand. Employers therefore need to check an individual's work entitlement more carefully than previously.
  • All HM's should receive a monthly email on Staff Visa expiration dates from the HR Administrator.
To help speed up the employment process, the Department of Labour has set up an online system – called VisaView – which our Global Mobility Consultant has access to - to allow employers to check a job applicant’s entitlement to work and any conditions. The system is designed to be quick and easy to use, and to protect individual privacy.

Immigration Employers Hub:

We do recommend that you review the Immigration Employers Hub - as it is updated on a regular basis. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/employ-migrants
