The Children's Act worker safety checking requirements came into force on 1 July 2015.

The main requirements of a safety check include
- Additional Interview Questions
- Additional Reference Questions
- Identity check two forms of ID
- Risk assessment
- NZ Police Vetting completed prior to start date
